The beginning

Puppy days

Use short reward-based lessons before interest fades. Puppy-proof reachable objects, introduce household experiences gradually, and begin lead manners while providing quiet rest between explorations.

Your everyday

Adult life

Continue energetic walks, secure play and scent or tracking games. Manage hunting instincts with leads and fencing; training success does not remove the urge to chase.

Everyday care

Give the short coat a weekly brush; baths are usually occasional. Provide plenty of regular exercise and mental work, alongside routine nails and tooth care.

Worth planning for: Barkless does not mean silent: Basenjis can yodel, and their strong hunting instinct makes roaming unsafe.
